                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
     2     act relating to the public school system, including certain
     3     provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
     4     schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
     5     laws relating thereto," further providing, in vocational
     6     education, for definitions and for payments on account of
     7     pupils enrolled in vocational curriculums.

     8     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     9  hereby enacts as follows:
    10     Section 1.  Section 1801(4) of the act of March 10, 1949
    11  (P.L.30, No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949, is
    12  amended to read:
    13     Section 1801.  Definitions.--The following words and phrases
    14  as used in this article shall, unless a different meaning is
    15  plainly required by the context, have the following meanings:

    17     (4)  "Vocational agricultural education" shall mean that form
    18  of vocational education which [fits for the occupations

     1  connected with the tillage of the soil, the care of domestic
     2  animals, forestry, and other wage-earning or productive work on
     3  the farm.] provides students with the skills needed to enter and
     4  advance in careers such as production agriculture, agribusiness
     5  management and marketing, agricultural research and engineering,
     6  food science, food processing and retailing, banking,
     7  agricultural education, landscape architecture, silviculture,
     8  aquaculture, urban interfacing and other related fields.

    10     Section 2.  Section 2502.8 of the act is amended by adding
    11  subsections to read:
    12     Section 2502.8.  Payments on Account of Pupils Enrolled in
    13  Vocational Curriculums.--* * *
    14     (f)  Notwithstanding any other provision of this act to the
    15  contrary, vocational agricultural education programs operated by
    16  school districts and area vocational-technical schools shall
    17  receive funding in accordance with this section regardless of
    18  any minimum time requirements for class hours established by
    19  regulation of the State Board of Vocational Education or
    20  regulation or standards of the Department of Education.
    21     (g)  Vocational education credits may be given for hours
    22  spent in supervised agricultural experience and cooperative and
    23  clinical experiences.
    24     Section 3.  The provisions of 22 Pa. Code § 339.22(a)(4)
    25  (relating to program content) are abrogated to the extent of any
    26  inconsistency with this act.
    27     Section 4.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
