AN ACT 1 Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An 2 act relating to the public school system, including certain 3 provisions applicable as well to private and parochial 4 schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the 5 laws relating thereto," further providing for removal of 6 certain officers and employees of school districts. 7 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 8 hereby enacts as follows: 9 Section 1. Section 514 of the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, 10 No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949, is amended to 11 read: 12 Section 514. Removal of Officers, Employes, etc.--(a) The 13 board of school directors in any school district, except as 14 herein otherwise provided, shall after due notice, giving the 15 reasons therefor, [and after hearing if demanded,] have the 16 right at any time to remove any of its officers, employes, or 17 appointees [for incompetency, intemperance, neglect of duty, 18 violation of any of the school laws of this Commonwealth, or 19 other improper conduct] with or without cause.
1 (b) On the removal by the board of school directors of any 2 officer, employe, or appointee, such officer, employe, or 3 appointee shall surrender and deliver to the secretary, or other 4 person designated by the board, any and all papers, property, 5 and effects of the school district in his hands at the time of 6 such removal. 7 (c) Notwithstanding any of the provisions of this section, a 8 school officer, employe or appointee under contract with a board 9 of school directors of a school district prior to the effective 10 date of this subsection shall be permitted to complete the 11 remainder of such contract according to its terms and shall 12 become an at-will employe of the district in the first contract 13 renewal following the effective date of this subsection. 14 Section 2.
