           PREPAREDNESS, APRIL 18, 2007

                                     AN ACT

     1  Designating March 19 of each year as "Pennsylvania Military
     2     Heroes Day."

     3     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     4  hereby enacts as follows:
     5  Section 1.  March 19 designation.
     6     March 19 of each year shall be known as "Pennsylvania
     7  Military Heroes Day."
     8  Section 2.  Purpose.
     9     This day shall be apart as a day of gratitude to and profound
    10  respect for all the men and women in our armed forces who have
    11  served and continue to serve in Iraq. This day shall affirm that
    12  these heroes exhibited immense bravery and courage for accepting
    13  the challenges and hardships that have come with fighting the

     1  war in the Middle East.
     2  Section 3.  Observance of day.
     3     This day shall be observed by citizens and political
     4  subdivisions by:
     5         (1)  Devoting some part of the day to the recognition of
     6     our armed forces and acknowledge their contributions,
     7     professionalism and sacrifices to keep our country safe.
     8         (2)  Observing a moment of silence in recognition of
     9     March 19, 2003, when the United States declared war on Iraq
    10     and remembering all of the brave soldiers that gave the
    11     ultimate sacrifice for our country since the war began.
    12  Section 4.  Effective date.
    13     This act shall take effect in 60 days.
