A RESOLUTION 1 Designating the month of May 2006 as "Community Action Month" in 2 Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Community action agencies are an integral part of 4 every community in this Commonwealth, providing people with the 5 tools they need to move out of poverty and into self- 6 sufficiency; and 7 WHEREAS, The 43 community action agencies covering all 67 8 counties of this Commonwealth help our neighbors in need by 9 removing the obstacles that stand in the way of independence, 10 mobilizing resources, establishing partnerships and promoting 11 public policies that identify and find local solutions for 12 poverty; and 13 WHEREAS, Governed by volunteers from the community, community 14 action agencies have the flexibility to address the needs of 15 low-income people in each community, providing the unique 16 solutions each situation demands; and
1 WHEREAS, The Community Action Association of Pennsylvania 2 serves as the Statewide voice for local agencies relating to 3 public policy, antipoverty planning and advocacy; and 4 WHEREAS, Every day, low-income Pennsylvanians are turning 5 their lives around, empowered by their local community action 6 agency to gain the skills and confidence they need to succeed; 7 therefore be it 8 RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of May 2006 as 9 "Community Action Month" in Pennsylvania in recognition and 10 honor of the Community Action Association of Pennsylvania and 11 its member agencies as they help people and change lives.
