SENATE RESOLUTION

No. 267 Session of 2006

        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, APRIL 5, 2006

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating April 8, 2006, as "Cushing's Syndrome Awareness Day"
     2     in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Cushing's syndrome encompasses all forms of
     4  Cushing's disease, including adrenal, pituitary, ectopic and
     5  steroid-induced Cushing's syndromes and pseudo-Cushing's
     6  syndrome; and
     7     WHEREAS, Cushing's syndrome is characterized by
     8  overproduction of cortisol, a stress hormone made by the adrenal
     9  glands; and
    10     WHEREAS, Cushing's syndrome symptoms are often associated
    11  with other conditions, leading to misdiagnosis; and
    12     WHEREAS, Many persons with Cushing's syndrome are
    13  misdiagnosed or go undiagnosed for years before receiving the
    14  correct testing and treatment; and
    15     WHEREAS, Left untreated, Cushing's syndrome is persistent and
    16  fatal as elevated cortisol levels adversely affect body systems;
    17  and


     1     WHEREAS, "Cushing's Syndrome Awareness Day" is set aside to
     2  save lives by increasing awareness in the medical community and
     3  the public; therefore be it
     4     RESOLVED, That the Senate designate April 8, 2006, as
     5  "Cushing's Syndrome Awareness Day" in Pennsylvania.
