A RESOLUTION
1 Recognizing the 100th anniversary of the first football game
2 played between Easton Area High School of Pennsylvania and
3 Phillipsburg High School of New Jersey, who will take to the
4 field again in competition on Thanksgiving Day, November 23,
5 2006, to continue their traditional longstanding backyard
6 rivalry.
7 WHEREAS, Easton Area High School of Pennsylvania and
8 Phillipsburg High School of New Jersey have competed against one
9 another in football since their first official game on March
10 Field at Lafayette College in Easton in 1905; and
11 WHEREAS, This dramatic rivalry has come to be played on
12 Thanksgiving Day each year; and
13 WHEREAS, This year marks the 100th anniversary of the
14 showdown and the 90th year since the Thanksgiving Day tradition
15 began; and
16 WHEREAS, The series now stands at Easton winning 54,
17 Phillipsburg winning 40 and 5 games ending in ties; and
18 WHEREAS, This annual game generates much excitement
19 throughout the Easton-Phillipsburg area and makes an already
1 outstanding holiday that much more memorable; therefore be it
2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
3 100th anniversary of the first official football game played
4 between Easton Area High School of Pennsylvania and Phillipsburg
5 High School of New Jersey, who will take to the field again in
6 competition on November 23, 2006, to continue their traditional
7 longstanding backyard rivalry.
