                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing the month of October 2006 as "Breast Cancer
     2     Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Women's health is essential to the health of our
     4  families, our communities and our society; and
     5     WHEREAS, Breast cancer strikes one in every nine women in the
     6  United States; and
     7     WHEREAS, Approximately 11,000 women are diagnosed with breast
     8  cancer each year in this Commonwealth; and
     9     WHEREAS, Early detection can give women a five-year survival
    10  rate of 97%; and
    11     WHEREAS, Clinical breast examinations, regular mammograms and
    12  breast self-examinations are the best means of detecting breast
    13  cancer; and
    14     WHEREAS, Throughout the United States and this Commonwealth,


     1  the American Cancer Society, the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer
     2  Coalition and other national, State and local organizations are
     3  working to raise funds, increase public awareness and support
     4  women with breast cancer; therefore be it
     5     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
     6  month of October 2006 as "Breast Cancer Awareness Month" in
     7  Pennsylvania to applaud the thousands of professionals and
     8  volunteers in the fight against breast cancer and to encourage
     9  all women to access screening services for early detection.
