        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MAY 10, 2005

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing May 10, 2005, as a day to remember the grieving
     2     survivors of those who have lost their lives to drug and
     3     alcohol addiction.

     4     WHEREAS, One of every ten citizens of this Commonwealth has a
     5  personal drug or alcohol problem, and one in every four families
     6  in this Commonwealth is affected by drug or alcohol addiction;
     7  and
     8     WHEREAS, While 70,000 Pennsylvanians receive treatment for
     9  drug and alcohol problems annually, estimates indicate that an
    10  additional 560,000 citizens are in need of treatment; and
    11     WHEREAS, Drug and alcohol problems underlie high fatality
    12  rates when adequate treatment is unavailable or not followed as
    13  prescribed; and
    14     WHEREAS, Each of these deaths leaves a wake of devastation,
    15  grief and tragedy; therefore be it
    16     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize May 10,
    17  2005, as a day to remember the grieving survivors of those who
    18  have lost their battles with drug and alcohol addiction.
