        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           APRIL 13, 2005

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the month of April 2005 as "Good Chemistry Month" in
     2     Pennsylvania in recognition of the dynamism and innovation of
     3     the business of chemistry.

     4     WHEREAS, The business of chemistry is a significant
     5  contributor to the economy of this Commonwealth, employing more
     6  than 61,600 people; and
     7     WHEREAS, The business of chemistry in this Commonwealth
     8  exports $2.6 billion in products annually; and
     9     WHEREAS, The value of industry production by the business of
    10  chemistry in this Commonwealth is $27.2 billion; and
    11     WHEREAS, The business of chemistry in this Commonwealth
    12  offers family-sustaining jobs averaging $68,630; and
    13     WHEREAS, The business of chemistry in this Commonwealth
    14  provides support to numerous endowments, foundations and


     1  scholarship organizations; and
     2     WHEREAS, The business of chemistry in this Commonwealth has
     3  reduced core toxic reduction inventory emissions by 77% since
     4  1988; and
     5     WHEREAS, The business of chemistry is a leader in safety,
     6  with a safety performance record 4.5 times above the average of
     7  all other United States manufacturing industries combined; and
     8     WHEREAS, The business of chemistry is the nation's largest
     9  employer of knowledgeable workers, comprising 43% of the
    10  industry's work force; and
    11     WHEREAS, The business of chemistry is the nation's largest
    12  investor in private sector funding of research and development
    13  initiatives, with chemistry industry scientists and researchers
    14  accounting for 1 in 7 patents filed in the United States every
    15  year; and
    16     WHEREAS, The evolving science of chemistry enhances our
    17  everyday quality of life by providing potable water, medicines,
    18  clothing, housing and transportation; therefore be it
    19     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
    20  month of April 2005 as "Good Chemistry Month" in Pennsylvania in
    21  recognition of the dynamism and innovation of the business of
    22  chemistry.
