                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing the month of April 2005 as "Mathematics Awareness
     2     Month" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, The study and application of mathematics is
     4  fundamental to the conduct of our daily lives; and
     5     WHEREAS, Mathematicians have contributed to the progress of
     6  our society by advancing and refining mathematical theories; and
     7     WHEREAS, Mathematicians have developed and pursued various
     8  specialties to explore the universe and tackle unsolved
     9  problems; and
    10     WHEREAS, "Mathematics Awareness Month," observed each year in
    11  April, promotes the foundations and diverse applications of
    12  mathematics; and

     1     WHEREAS, The American Mathematical Society, the American
     2  Statistical Association, the Mathematical Association of America
     3  and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics have
     4  announced that "Mathematics and the Cosmos" is the theme of this
     5  year's observance; and
     6     WHEREAS, Mathematical interpretations underpin our models of
     7  the cosmos and our everyday lives; therefore be it
     8     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
     9  month of April 2005 as "Mathematics Awareness Month" in
    10  Pennsylvania.
