        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           JANUARY 31, 2005

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Honoring the Pittsburgh Steelers for an outstanding season of
     2     professional football during 2004.

     3     WHEREAS, In 1933 Art Rooney purchased a National Football
     4  League franchise for $2,500; and
     5     WHEREAS, The franchise, originally named the Pittsburgh
     6  Pirates, later became known as the Pittsburgh Steelers; and
     7     WHEREAS, Over the last eight decades, the Steelers have
     8  become a beloved part of the City of Pittsburgh and have brought
     9  many great moments to the league and the city; and
    10     WHEREAS, Through the 1970s the Steelers built a dynasty which
    11  captured four Super Bowl championships; and
    12     WHEREAS, During 2004 the Steelers played a remarkable 15-1
    13  season, culminating in a 20-17 victory over the New York Jets on


     1  January 15, 2005, during the American Football Conference (AFC)
     2  divisional playoff game; and
     3     WHEREAS, The Steelers played in the AFC championship game on
     4  January 23, 2005, against the New England Patriots for the
     5  conference title but were unable to win; and
     6     WHEREAS, The Steelers deserve the admiration of the residents
     7  of this Commonwealth for their 15-game winning streak during
     8  2004; therefore be it
     9     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the
    10  Pittsburgh Steelers for an outstanding season of professional
    11  football during 2004.
