AN ACT 1 Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated 2 Statutes, providing for Gold Star Family registration plate. 3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 4 hereby enacts as follows: 5 Section 1. Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated 6 Statutes is amended by adding a section to read: 7 § 1365. Gold Star Family plate. 8 (a) General rule.--Upon application of a family member of a 9 person who was killed while serving on active duty in the 10 military, the department shall issue to the family member a 11 special registration plate carrying the Service Flag Gold Star 12 rimmed with blue which represents sacrifice to the cause of 13 liberty and freedom. The plate shall have a five-point gold star
1 on the left side with a single point facing upward. In addition, 2 the star shall be outlined in blue with a gray shadow in the 3 center. The words "Gold Star Family" shall be clearly displayed 4 along the bottom of the plate and the letters "GSF" shall be 5 stacked on the left side of the plate next to the star symbol. 6 The department may charge a $20 fee in addition to the annual 7 registration fee. The special registration plate may be used 8 only on a passenger car or truck with a registered gross weight 9 of not more than 10,000 pounds. 10 (b) Documentation required.--For the purposes of this 11 section, applicants may submit to the department a sworn 12 affidavit stating that any required documentation testifying to 13 the death of the military person is unattainable or no longer in 14 existence. The affidavit must be notarized, and applicants 15 falsifying the information are subject to the penalties for 16 perjury. 17 (c) Personalization.--The department shall, upon application 18 for the special plate as prescribed in subsection (a) and upon 19 payment of an additional $20 fee, issue a personal special 20 registration plate to applicants authorized in this section. 21 (d) Definition.--As used in this section, the term "family 22 member" includes the following: 23 (1) Widow. 24 (2) Widower. 25 (3) Mother. 26 (4) Father. 27 (5) Stepmother. 28 (6) Stepfather. 29 (7) Mother through adoption. 30 (8) Father through adoption. 20060H2498B3672 - 2 -
1 (9) Foster mother in loco parentis. 2 (10) Foster father in loco parentis. 3 (11) Son. 4 (12) Daughter. 5 (13) Stepson. 6 (14) Stepdaughter. 7 (15) Son by adoption. 8 (16) Daughter by adoption. 9 (17) Brother. 10 (18) Sister. 11 (19) Half brother. 12 (20) Half sister. 13 Section 2.
