AN ACT 1 Amending Title 18 (Crimes and Offenses) of the Pennsylvania 2 Consolidated Statutes, providing for firearm security in 3 cities of the first class. 4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 5 hereby enacts as follows: 6 Section 1. Title 18 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated 7 Statutes is amended by adding a section to read: 8 § 6143. Firearms and explosive weapons in cities of the first 9 class. 10 (a) Scope.--This section applies only in a city of the first 11 class. 12 (b) Security.--A person that maintains a firearm or an 13 explosive weapon shall maintain the firearm or explosive weapon: 14 (1) in a locked container; or 15 (2) in the possession of or within physical reach of an 16 individual who is lawfully entitled to possess it. 17 (c) Reporting.--A person that maintains a firearm or an 18 explosive weapon shall report the loss or theft of the firearm
1 or explosive weapon to law enforcement within one hour after the 2 person knows or should be aware that the firearm or explosive 3 weapon has been lost or stolen. 4 (d) Offense.--A person that violates subsection (b) or (c) 5 commits a misdemeanor of the third degree. 6 (e) Definition.--As used in this section, the term 7 "explosive weapon" means a weapon which is designed to or may 8 readily be converted to expel a projectile by the action of an 9 explosive. 10 Section 2.
