                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of June 3, 1937 (P.L.1333, No.320), entitled
     2     "An act concerning elections, including general, municipal,
     3     special and primary elections, the nomination of candidates,
     4     primary and election expenses and election contests; creating
     5     and defining membership of county boards of elections;
     6     imposing duties upon the Secretary of the Commonwealth,
     7     courts, county boards of elections, county commissioners;
     8     imposing penalties for violation of the act, and codifying,
     9     revising and consolidating the laws relating thereto; and
    10     repealing certain acts and parts of acts relating to
    11     elections," further providing for the date of the general
    12     primary in years in which the President of the United States
    13     is nominated.

    14     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    15  hereby enacts as follows:
    16     Section 1.  Section 603(a) of the act of June 3, 1937
    17  (P.L.1333, No.320), known as the Pennsylvania Election Code,
    18  amended November 24, 1999 (P.L.543, No.51), is amended to read:
    19     Section 603.  General Primary; Candidates to Be Nominated and
    20  Party Officers to Be Elected.--(a)  There shall be a General
    21  primary preceding each general election which shall be held on

     1  the third Tuesday of May in all even-numbered years, except in
     2  the year of the nomination of a President of the United States,
     3  in which year the General primary shall be held on the [fourth
     4  Tuesday of April.] third Tuesday of March. Candidates for all
     5  offices to be filled at the ensuing general election shall be
     6  nominated at the General primary. The vote for candidates for
     7  the office of President of the United States, as provided for by
     8  this act, shall be cast at the General primary.

    10     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
