                                     AN ACT

     1  Redesignating a bridge on that portion of SR (truck route) 271
     2     over the Conemaugh River and the Norfolk Southern mainline,
     3     Franklin Borough, Cambria County, as the Sergeant Michael
     4     Strank Memorial Bridge.

     5     WHEREAS, During World War II, one image, without question,
     6  stands above the rest; that of Associated Press photographer Joe
     7  Rosenthal's photograph of the Iwo Jima flag raising; and
     8     WHEREAS, Mr. Rosenthal's incidental capturing of that single
     9  moment became a timeless source of national pride that has left
    10  an indelible mark on American history; and
    11     WHEREAS, On that memorable occasion, Sergeant Michael Strank,
    12  squad leader and the oldest of the group was seen through
    13  Rosenthal's lens; and
    14     WHEREAS, Sergeant Michael Strank was a resident of Franklin


     1  Borough, Cambria County.
     2     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     3  hereby enacts as follows:
     4  Section 1.  Sergeant Michael Strank Memorial Bridge.
     5     (a)  Designation.--The bridge located on that portion of SR
     6  (truck route) 271 over the Conemaugh River and the Norfolk
     7  Southern mainline, Franklin Borough, Cambria County, is
     8  redesignated as the Sergeant Michael Strank Memorial Bridge.
     9     (b)  Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
    10  maintain appropriate signs displaying the redesignated name of
    11  the bridge to traffic in both directions on the bridge.
    12  Section 2.  Effective date.
    13     This act shall take effect immediately.
