AN ACT 1 Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated 2 Statutes, providing for certain veterans plates; AND FURTHER <-- 3 PROVIDING FOR PERMIT FOR MOVEMENT OF CONTAINERIZED CARGO. 4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 5 hereby enacts as follows: 6 Section 1. Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated 7 Statutes is amended by adding sections to read: 8 § 1362. Operation Iraqi Freedom veterans plate. 9 Upon application of any person who is a veteran of the 10 liberation or occupation of Iraq, accompanied by a fee of $20, 11 which shall be in addition to the annual registration fee and by 12 documentation as the department shall require, the department 13 shall issue to the person a special registration plate
1 designating the vehicle so licensed as belonging to a person who 2 is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. 3 § 1363. Operation Enduring Freedom veterans plate. 4 Upon application of any person who is a veteran of the 5 liberation or occupation of Afghanistan, accompanied by a fee of 6 $20, which shall be in addition to the annual registration fee 7 and by documentation as the department shall require, the 8 department shall issue to the person a special registration 9 plate designating the vehicle so licensed as belonging to a 10 person who is a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom. 11 § 1364. Special plates for veterans. 12 Upon application of any person who is an honorably discharged 13 veteran of the armed forces of the United States, or a reserve 14 component of the armed forces as defined in 51 Pa.C.S. § 7301 15 (relating to definitions), accompanied by a fee of $20 which 16 shall be in addition to the annual registration fee and by such 17 documentation as the department shall require, the department 18 shall issue to the person a special registration plate 19 designating the vehicle as belonging to a person who is a 20 veteran of the armed forces of the United States. 21 SECTION 2. SECTION 4974 OF TITLE 75 IS AMENDED TO READ: <-- 22 § 4974. PERMIT FOR MOVEMENT OF CONTAINERIZED CARGO. 23 (A) GENERAL RULE.--AN ANNUAL PERMIT MAY BE ISSUED 24 AUTHORIZING THE MOVEMENT ON HIGHWAYS OF CONTAINERIZED CARGO 25 WHICH EXCEEDS THE MAXIMUM VEHICLE GROSS OR MAXIMUM AXLE WEIGHTS 26 SPECIFIED IN SUBCHAPTER C (RELATING TO MAXIMUM WEIGHTS OF 27 VEHICLES). [THE] EXCEPT AS SET FORTH IN SUBSECTION (B), THE 28 WEIGHT OF ANY COMBINATION PERMITTED UNDER THIS SECTION SHALL NOT 29 EXCEED 90,000 POUNDS OVERALL GROSS WEIGHT AND 21,000 POUNDS ON 30 ANY AXLE. 1 PERMITTED UNDER THIS SECTION WHILE THE COMBINATION IS OPERATED 2 WITHIN THE COUNTIES WHICH COMPRISE THE DISTRICT OF A PORT OF A 3 CITY OF THE FIRST CLASS. A VEHICLE OPERATING UNDER A PERMIT 4 AUTHORIZED UNDER THIS SECTION MAY BE DRIVEN 24 HOURS A DAY, 5 SEVEN DAYS A WEEK, EXCEPT ON HOLIDAYS AND IN INCLEMENT WEATHER. 6 (B) REFRIGERATED MEAT PRODUCTS.--A COMBINATION OF VEHICLES 7 WHICH IS HAULING REFRIGERATED MEAT PRODUCTS TO OR FROM A PORT OF 8 A CITY OF THE FIRST CLASS MAY BE PERMITTED BY THE DEPARTMENT AND 9 LOCAL AUTHORITIES TO MOVE UPON HIGHWAYS WITHIN THEIR RESPECTIVE 10 JURISDICTIONS 24 HOURS A DAY, SEVEN DAYS A WEEK, IF THE GROSS 11 WEIGHT DOES NOT EXCEED 110,000 POUNDS AND IF THE WEIGHT OF ANY 12 NONSTEERING AXLE DOES NOT EXCEED 21,000 POUNDS. 13 Section 2 3.
