        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           FEBRUARY 10, 2004

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Commending Sears, Roebuck and Co. for its exemplary extension of
     2     benefits and pay to military reservist employees called to
     3     active duty.

     4     WHEREAS, Sears, Roebuck and Co., founded more than a century
     5  ago, is a leading retailer of apparel, home and automotive
     6  products and services, with annual revenues exceeding $40
     7  billion; and
     8     WHEREAS, Sears, Roebuck and Co. operates 870 full-line stores
     9  and more than 1,300 specialty stores, including stores
    10  throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; and
    11     WHEREAS, Because of the company's generous policies, reserve
    12  and national guard members are able to fulfill their military


     1  duty without jeopardizing insurance coverage; and
     2     WHEREAS, Sears, Roebuck and Co. is voluntarily covering
     3  employees' military pay differential for 24 months and allowing
     4  servicepersons to retain health benefits, including medical and
     5  dental coverage; and
     6     WHEREAS, By offering these benefits, Sears, Roebuck and Co.
     7  is going above and beyond the requirements of the law; and
     8     WHEREAS, The success of our nation's volunteer-based military
     9  is enhanced by the generosity and support of employers such as
    10  Sears, Roebuck and Co.; therefore be it
    11     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
    12  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania commend Sears, Roebuck, and Co. for
    13  providing financial support to its employees in the United
    14  States Armed Forces and encourage other companies in the
    15  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to enact similar measures; and be
    16  it further
    17     RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
    18  Sears, Roebuck and Co., c/o Corporate Headquarters, 3333 Beverly
    19  Road, Hoffman Estates, IL, 60179.
