                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, further providing for provisions relating to
     3     meeting or overtaking school bus and for general requirements
     4     for school buses.

     5     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     6  hereby enacts as follows:
     7     Section 1.  Section 3345(a.1)(2) of Title 75 of the
     8  Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
     9  § 3345.  Meeting or overtaking school bus.

    11     (a.1)  Reports by school bus operators.--
    12         * * *
    13         (2)  Within 48 hours after the violation occurs, the
    14     school bus operator shall deliver a copy of the report and
    15     any video recording obtained through a device installed under
    16     section 4552(b.4) to a police officer having authority to
    17     exercise police power in the area where the violation
    18     occurred. If the police officer believes that the report

     1     establishes a sufficient basis for the issuance of a
     2     citation, the officer shall file a citation and the report
     3     with the issuing authority. If the issuing authority
     4     determines that the report and citation establish a
     5     sufficient basis for the issuance of a summons, a summons
     6     shall be issued in accordance with general rules governing
     7     the institution of proceedings in summary traffic offense
     8     cases. The issuing authority shall send the defendant a copy
     9     of the citation, together with a statement that it was filed
    10     by the police officer named in the citation on the basis of
    11     information received.

    13     Section 2.  Section 4552 of Title 75 is amended by adding a
    14  subsection to read:
    15  § 4552.  General requirements for school buses.

    17     (b.4)  Video cameras.--A school bus may be equipped with a
    18  video camera or similar device for the purpose of recording
    19  images of vehicles that pass the school bus in violation of
    20  section 3345(a).

    22     Section 3.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
