                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 42 (Judiciary and Judicial Procedure) of the
     2     Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, further providing for
     3     summary offenses involving vehicles.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 5553(c) of Title 42 of the Pennsylvania
     7  Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
     8  § 5553.  Summary offenses involving vehicles.
     9     * * *
    10     [(c)  Exception.--Where] (c)  Exceptions.--
    11         (1)  Where proceedings are timely commenced against a
    12     person reasonably believed to have committed the offense
    13     charged and it subsequently appears that a person other than
    14     the person charged is the offender, proceedings may be
    15     commenced against the other person within 30 days after the
    16     identity of the person is discovered and not thereafter.
    17         (2)  Where there are multiple offenses arising out of the


     1     same conduct or the same criminal episode and the police
     2     officer reasonably believes that an offense under 75 Pa.C.S.
     3     § 1543 (relating to driving while operating privilege is
     4     suspended or revoked) has occurred, proceedings on all
     5     offenses arising from the conduct or episode may be commenced
     6     within 30 days after the police officer receives verification
     7     of the basis for the suspension from the Department of
     8     Transportation as required under 75 Pa.C.S.§ 1543(c).

    10     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
