                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of July 3, 1986 (P.L.396, No.86), entitled "An
     2     act requiring notice of rate increases, policy cancellations
     3     and nonrenewals by property and casualty insurers,"
     4     prohibiting premium increases and cancellations of insurance
     5     policies in cases of certain volunteer emergency service
     6     personnel.

     7     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     8  hereby enacts as follows:
     9     Section 1.  The act of July 3, 1986 (P.L.396, No.86),
    10  entitled "An act requiring notice of rate increases, policy
    11  cancellations and nonrenewals by property and casualty
    12  insurers," is amended by adding a section to read:
    13  Section 2.1.  Premium increases and cancellations prohibited in
    14                 cases of certain volunteer emergency service
    15                 personnel.
    16     An insurer may not increase the premium for an insurance
    17  policy, nor may an insurer cancel or refuse to renew an


     1  insurance policy, on the basis of an insured's assessment of
     2  risk in relation to the insured's participation in any of the
     3  following activities:
     4         (1)  Volunteer ambulance service.
     5         (2)  Volunteer fire company.
     6         (3)  Volunteer rescue squad.
     7         (4)  Volunteer emergency medical services, if the insured
     8     is certified to perform these services by the Department of
     9     Health.
    10     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
