                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 66 (Public Utilities) of the Pennsylvania
     2     Consolidated Statutes, further providing for
     3     telecommunications service supplied to certain organizations.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 1511 of Title 66 of the Pennsylvania
     7  Consolidated Statutes, amended December 9, 2002 (P.L.1556,
     8  No.203), is amended to read:
     9  § 1511.  [Electricity] Electric and telecommunications service
    10             supplied to certain organizations.
    11     (a)  Electric service.--Any public utility company supplying
    12  electric service shall, upon application, permit a volunteer
    13  fire company, a nonprofit rescue squad or ambulance service or a
    14  nonprofit senior citizen center to elect to have its electric
    15  service rendered pursuant to a rate schedule which provides

     1  equivalent charges for such service as residential rates upon
     2  execution of a contract for a minimum term of one year.
     3     (b)  Telecommunications service.--Any telecommunications
     4  utility providing telecommunications service within a certified
     5  exchange area shall, upon application, permit a volunteer fire
     6  company or a nonprofit senior citizen center to elect to have
     7  its telecommunications service rendered pursuant to a rate
     8  schedule which provides equivalent charges for such
     9  telecommunications service as residential rates upon execution
    10  of a contract for a minimum of one year.
    11     (c)  Definitions.--As used in this section, the following
    12  words and phrases shall have the meanings given to them in this
    13  subsection:
    14     "Telecommunications service."  The term shall have the
    15  meaning given to it under section 3002 (relating to
    16  definitions).
    17     "Telecommunications utility."  Any provider of
    18  telecommunications service.
    19     "Volunteer fire company."  The term shall have the meaning
    20  given to it in the act of July 15, 1976 (P.L.1036, No.208),
    21  known as the Volunteer Fire Company, Ambulance Service and
    22  Rescue Squad Assistance Act.
    23     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
