        INTRODUCED BY STEELMAN, CAPPELLI, COLAFELLA, CORRIGAN, DALEY,
           DeLUCA, DeWEESE, D. EVANS, FRANKEL, FREEMAN, GRUCELA,
           HUTCHINSON, JOSEPHS, LAUGHLIN, LESCOVITZ, McGILL, McILHATTAN,
           MELIO, PETRARCA, PISTELLA, READSHAW, ROBERTS, ROEBUCK,
           SCHULER, SHANER, TIGUE, WOJNAROSKI AND YOUNGBLOOD,

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Memorializing Congress to enact the Paths to the Ohio Trail
     2     Study Act of 2002.

     3     WHEREAS, The Paths to the Ohio Trail Study Act of 2002, H.R.
     4  5368, amends the National Trails System Act (16 U.S.C. § 1241 et
     5  seq.), designating historic transportation routes in
     6  Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia and Ohio for study for
     7  potential addition to the system; and
     8     WHEREAS, Routes to the forks of the Ohio River in Pittsburgh
     9  used by British and French military forces at the time of the
    10  French and Indian War as well as canal systems, including the
    11  Pennsylvania Mainline Canal, and rail corridors are appropriate
    12  for inclusion in the system; and
    13     WHEREAS, National Park Service designation of the growing
    14  trail network in western Pennsylvania as part of the National
    15  Trails System would highlight the historic significance of land


     1  claimed and counterclaimed by the French and British in the 18th
     2  century and central to the United States' transition from an
     3  agrarian to industrial society through developments in
     4  transportation, coal mining and steelmaking; and
     5     WHEREAS, National designation as a scenic trail or historic
     6  trail would further link major trails in the region, promoting
     7  regional economies and regional significance through tourism,
     8  recreation, including off-road hiking and biking, and
     9  conservation of natural and cultural resources; therefore be it
    10     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
    11  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania memorialize the Congress of the
    12  United States to enact the Paths to the Ohio Trail Study Act of
    13  2002.
