A RESOLUTION 1 Advising public school officials of the School District of 2 Philadelphia of the necessity of open access to the public 3 schools by State officials. 4 WHEREAS, Section 110 of the Public School Code of 1949 5 authorizes official visitors, including the Governor, Lieutenant 6 Governor, members of the Senate, members of the House of 7 Representatives, the Secretary of Education and members of the 8 State Board of Education, to access the public schools of this 9 Commonwealth at any time and prohibits the public schools of 10 this Commonwealth from denying access to these official 11 visitors; and 12 WHEREAS, The School District of Philadelphia, a school 13 district of the first class, denied access to a public school 14 within the school district to a government official entitled to 15 access under section 110 of the Public School Code of 1949; and 16 WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia has more than 300 public 17 and charter schools; therefore be it 18 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives advise public
1 school officials of the School District of Philadelphia that 2 adherence to the letter and spirit of the law embodied in 3 section 110 of the Public School Code of 1949 is necessary for 4 purposes of fostering a good working relationship between State 5 officials and public school officials and that open access by 6 State officials to the public schools of this Commonwealth is 7 essential to the democratic process.
