        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           OCTOBER 29, 2001

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Commemorating November 2001 as "National Adoption Awareness
     2     Month."

     3     WHEREAS, The Commonwealth is committed to helping to find
     4  safe, permanent and loving homes for children in need of such
     5  homes through adoption; and
     6     WHEREAS, The Commonwealth has demonstrated this commitment
     7  through its many programs, including the Pennsylvania Adoption
     8  Exchange, the Statewide Adoption Network, the website
     9  www.adoptpakids.org, and the toll-free hotline 1-800-585-SWAN;
    10  and


     1     WHEREAS, Despite these many successes, there is still a need
     2  for permanent, loving homes for as many as 3,921 children in
     3  this Commonwealth; and
     4     WHEREAS, The many caring families that open their arms and
     5  hearts to children through adoption need to be recognized and
     6  honored; and
     7     WHEREAS, November 2001 marks the 11th anniversary of Adoption
     8  Month observances in the United States and the 25th anniversary
     9  of the nation's first Adoption Week; therefore be it
    10     RESOLVED, That the Commonwealth commemorate November 2001 as
    11  "National Adoption Awareness Month" and recommit itself through
    12  such commemoration to the goal of helping to find permanent,
    13  loving homes for every child in this Commonwealth who needs one.
