        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           APRIL 26, 2001

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating May 13 through 19, 2001 as "National Police Week" in
     2     Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Approximately 600 police officers have made the
     4  ultimate sacrifice since the beginning of law enforcement within
     5  this Commonwealth by being killed in the line of duty; and
     6     WHEREAS, National Police Memorial Day is held on May 15th of
     7  each year; and
     8     WHEREAS, Across the United States the week of May 13 through
     9  19, 2001 is designated as "National Police Week"; and
    10     WHEREAS, The first National Police Memorial Day was held on
    11  May 15, 1962, following a proclamation signed by President John
    12  F. Kennedy, and has continued to be observed annually in memory

     1  of those police officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the
     2  line of duty; therefore be it
     3     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the memory
     4  of the hundreds of police officers who gave their lives in the
     5  line of duty in this Commonwealth; and be it further
     6     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate May 13
     7  through 19, 2001 as "National Police Week" in Pennsylvania.
