        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MARCH 14, 2001

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the week of April 1 through 7, 2001, as "Week of the
     2     Young Child" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, The "Week of the Young Child" is an annual
     4  celebration each April, sponsored by the National Association
     5  for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the nation's
     6  largest organization of early childhood professionals; and
     7     WHEREAS, The purpose of the "Week of the Young Child" is to
     8  focus public attention on the needs of young children and their
     9  families and to support the programs and services that meet
    10  those needs; and
    11     WHEREAS, The NAEYC first established the "Week of the Young


     1  Child" in 1971, recognizing that the early childhood years lay
     2  the foundation for children's success in school and later life;
     3  and
     4     WHEREAS, The "Week of the Young Child" is a time to focus on
     5  the needs of young children and families and to plan how all
     6  citizens of the community, State and nation can better meet the
     7  needs of all young children and their families; therefore be it
     8     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
     9  week of April 1 through 7, 2001, as "Week of the Young Child" in
    10  Pennsylvania.
