AN ACT 1 Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated 2 Statutes, providing for unlawful sound amplification systems. 3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 4 hereby enacts as follows: 5 Section 1. Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated 6 Statutes is amended by adding a section to read: 7 § 4523.1. Sound amplification systems. 8 (a) General rule.--No person shall operate or permit the 9 operation of any sound amplification system, including, but not 10 limited to, a radio, tape player, compact disc player or any 11 other mechanical or nonmechanical sound-making device, which can 12 be heard outside a motor vehicle from 50 or more feet away. 13 (b) Application.--This section shall not apply to: 14 (1) Any emergency or law enforcement vehicle equipped 15 with a sound-making system used to warn of an emergency or
1 hazardous situation or to request assistance. 2 (2) Any authorized emergency vehicle or vehicle operated 3 by a public utility provider which is providing information 4 or a warning deemed to serve the public safety. 5 (3) The sound systems of a vehicle for which a local 6 permit has been issued to be used for advertising, parades, 7 political, charitable or other events as so prescribed by 8 local ordinance. 9 (c) Penalty.--A person who violates subsection (a) commits a 10 summary offense and shall, upon conviction, be sentenced to pay 11 a fine of not more than $100. 12 Section 2.
