A RESOLUTION
1 Extending congratulations to Penn State's women's rugby team for
2 winning this year's national championship.
3 WHEREAS, The Lady Ruggers, Penn State's women's rugby team,
4 won the national title in May of this year by defeating
5 Princeton University in competition held in Tampa, Florida; and
6 WHEREAS, To arrive at the national title game, the Lady
7 Ruggers had to get past top-seeded Stanford in the semifinals,
8 after defeating fourth-seeded Marquette in the prior round; and
9 WHEREAS, The 31-22 victory over Princeton was the second
10 national championship for the Lady Ruggers, who had previously
11 won the national title in 1997; and
12 WHEREAS, The outstanding effort and spirit of determination
13 and cooperation demonstrated by this team should not go
14 unrecognized; therefore be it
15 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor and
16 congratulate Penn State's talented women's rugby team, the Lady
17 Ruggers, and coach, Pete Steinberg, for an exceptional season
1 and for capturing the women's rugby national championship this
2 year.
