A RESOLUTION 1 Marking the 30th anniversary of Special Olympics Pennsylvania 2 and recognizing the 2000 Special Olympics Pennsylvania Summer 3 Games, June 8 through 11, 2000, at The Pennsylvania State 4 University, University Park. 5 WHEREAS, Special Olympics Pennsylvania was established as an 6 official Special Olympics chapter in May 1970 when a single 7 track and field meet was held at West Chester University for 135 8 athletes; and 9 WHEREAS, Special Olympics Pennsylvania has reached hundreds 10 of thousands of athletes and volunteers from every county in 11 this Commonwealth in the past three decades; and 12 WHEREAS, More than 27,000 children and adults with mental
1 retardation have participated in training and competition in 22 2 individual and team sports this year with assistance from more 3 than 40,000 volunteers in local, sectional and State events 4 leading up to the Summer Games, the largest State-level event; 5 therefore be it 6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives mark the 30th 7 anniversary of Special Olympics Pennsylvania and recognize the 8 efforts of all participants in the 2000 Special Olympics Summer 9 Games, June 8 through 11, 2000.
