                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Memorializing the President and Congress of the United States to
     2     enact legislation and appropriate funds for a museum and
     3     research center on African-American culture to be located on
     4     the National Mall in Washington D.C.

     5     WHEREAS, All Americans would draw great benefit from funding
     6  and support for a full-scale, interactive, high-tech history
     7  museum and research center on the Mall of the nation's capitol
     8  for the purpose of documenting, educating and telling the story
     9  of the African-American experience in the United States from its
    10  early beginnings in the 17th century to the 21st century; and
    11     WHEREAS, This museum could detail not only the horrific and
    12  sad history of African-Americans, the only population coming to
    13  America's shores as slaves, but also could show their
    14  indomitable spirit to overcome impossible odds and to struggle
    15  from slavery to freedom through the civil rights movement and


     1  obtain fair treatment and equality in America for all people of
     2  color; and
     3     WHEREAS, A United States African-American History Museum
     4  would help to delineate the major role African-Americans have
     5  played in building, defending and shaping America and their
     6  contributions in the fields of science, medicine, literature,
     7  arts, dance, music and entertainment; therefore be it
     8     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
     9  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania memorialize the President and
    10  Congress of the United States to enact legislation to provide
    11  for the construction and funding of a history museum and
    12  research center on African-American culture to be located on the
    13  National Mall in Washington D.C.
