A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing December 31, 2000, as "First Night" and promoting 2 participation in "First Night" celebrations. 3 WHEREAS, "First Night" is a community celebration of New 4 Year's Eve which began in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1976; and 5 WHEREAS, "First Night" celebrations unite communities by 6 creating a shared cultural experience with interactive and 7 artistic events; and 8 WHEREAS, "First Night" offers to families and individuals of 9 all ages a fulfilling and safe celebration of the New Year; and 10 WHEREAS, "First Night" celebrations revitalize the urban 11 environment of older cities and attract tourism to new 12 locations; and 13 WHEREAS, Over 200 cities in the United States host "First
1 Night" celebrations, including at least 17 in this Commonwealth; 2 and 3 WHEREAS, Communities ranging from small towns to large urban 4 areas successfully bring their residents together with "First 5 Night" celebrations; therefore be it 6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize 7 December 31, 2000, as "First Night"; and be it further 8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives encourage cities 9 and communities throughout this Commonwealth to join in hosting 10 "First Night" celebrations.
