        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           FEBRUARY 22, 2000

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Declaring the week of March 12 through 18, 2000, as "Emergency
     2     Service Providers Week" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, The citizens of Pennsylvania benefit daily from the
     4  services, knowledge and skills of paid and volunteer emergency
     5  service providers as they endure conditions that are stressful,
     6  dangerous and hazardous to themselves so that they may protect
     7  lives and offer security to others; and
     8     WHEREAS, These people include police officers, firefighters,
     9  medical and health professionals, rescue service personnel,
    10  emergency service dispatchers, engineering and public utility

     1  personnel, countless other public servants offering aid and
     2  assistance to the public and members of the public who aid their
     3  neighbors in a genuine expression of community; and
     4     WHEREAS, Emergency service providers by their selfless
     5  actions contribute immeasurably to the health and welfare of
     6  every person they encounter while performing these deeds; and
     7     WHEREAS, In appreciation and recognition of the organized
     8  efforts of emergency service providers and those who assist and
     9  support them, the Commonwealth should set aside a week to
    10  commemorate, appreciate and recognize emergency service
    11  providers; and
    12     WHEREAS, Without proper recognition and support for the
    13  activities that benefit emergency services, we place at risk the
    14  many important programs that make up Pennsylvania's emergency
    15  services and we endanger the public; therefore be it
    16     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare the week
    17  of March 12 through 18, 2000, as "Emergency Service Providers
    18  Week" in Pennsylvania in recognition of the heroism, bravery and
    19  courage that emergency service providers have displayed on
    20  countless occasions and in appreciation of the personnel who
    21  provide and support emergency services.
