INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, DECEMBER 7, 1999
A RESOLUTION 1 Proclaiming January 16 through 22, 2000, as "Snowmobile Safety 2 Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania 3 WHEREAS, The family sport of snowmobiling is enjoyed by more 4 than 100,000 men, women and children in this Commonwealth; and 5 WHEREAS, Snowmobiling continues to represent one of the 6 fastest growing segments of the winter tourism industry in this 7 Commonwealth, generating millions of dollars in revenue for many 8 rural communities; and 9 WHEREAS, Thousands of dedicated snowmobile club members 10 volunteer their efforts each year in maintaining the 3,000 miles 11 of snowmobile trails enjoyed by many diverse winter 12 recreationists, including cross-country skiers, mushers and 13 snowmobile enthusiasts; and 14 WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State Snowmobile Association and 15 the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources have joined 16 together to educate the snowmobiling public as to safe and 17 responsible snowmobiling for more than 25 years; and
1 WHEREAS, More than 25,000 young riders have successfully 2 completed the Snowmobile Safety Education Program taught by 3 volunteer instructors and department staff since the program was 4 created in 1975; and 5 WHEREAS, Responsible riding practices such as avoiding 6 alcohol and operating at safe speeds make Pennsylvania's 7 snowmobiling experience safe and enjoyable; therefore be it 8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives proclaim January 9 16 through 22, 2000, as "Snowmobile Safety Awareness Week" in 10 Pennsylvania; and be it further 11 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives, in the interest 12 of safe and enjoyable snowmobiling, encourage all snowmobilers 13 to take advantage of snowmobile safety programs and through 14 their actions and example preserve and enhance the family sport 15 of snowmobiling.
