        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           OCTOBER 25, 1999

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating December 12, 1999, as "Children's Memorial Day" in
     2     Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Approximately 80,000 infants, children, teenagers
     4  and young adults from families living throughout the United
     5  States die each year of many causes; and
     6     WHEREAS, The death of an infant, child, teenager, or young
     7  adult of a family is considered to be one of the greatest
     8  tragedies that a parent or family will ever endure during a
     9  lifetime; and
    10     WHEREAS, A supportive environment and empathy and
    11  understanding are considered critical factors in the healing

     1  process of a family that is coping with and recovering from the
     2  loss of a loved one; and
     3     WHEREAS, December 12, 1999 is recognized as "National
     4  Children's Memorial Day"; therefore be it
     5     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate
     6  December 12, 1999, as "Children's Memorial Day" in Pennsylvania;
     7  and be it further
     8     RESOLVED, That all residents of this Commonwealth be
     9  encouraged to observe the day with appropriate ceremonies and
    10  activities in remembrance of the many infants, children,
    11  teenagers and young adults who have died throughout this
    12  Commonwealth and our nation.
