        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           SEPTEMBER 29, 1999

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing October 7, 1999, as National Depression Screening
     2     Day in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, National Depression Screening Day, held each year
     4  during Mental Illness Awareness Week, is designed to call
     5  attention to the illness of depression on a national level, to
     6  educate the public about its symptoms and effective treatments
     7  and to connect those in need of treatment to the mental health
     8  care systems; and
     9     WHEREAS, In 1991 only 90 screening sites were available, and
    10  the number climbed to 3,000 in 1998; and
    11     WHEREAS, Each year over 100,000 persons are screened for
    12  depression, and the resulting data has provided valuable help
    13  for those in need; therefore be it
    14     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize October

     1  7, 1999, as National Depression Screening Day in Pennsylvania.
