A RESOLUTION 1 Declaring September 12, 1999, as "Ascension Day" in Pennsylvania 2 in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Ascension of Our 3 Lord Parish in Philadelphia. 4 WHEREAS, The Ascension of Our Lord Parish was founded in 5 1899; and 6 WHEREAS, At the time of its founding, the bishop was 7 Archbishop Patrick Ryan, the pastor was Father Dennis J. 8 Broughal, and the religious order serving the parish was the 9 Sisters of Saint Joseph; and 10 WHEREAS, The Upper Church was dedicated on April 1, 1914; and 11 WHEREAS, The Lower Church was dedicated on November 29, 1928; 12 and 13 WHEREAS, The parish school was dedicated on September 11, 14 1905; and 15 WHEREAS, The Ascension of Our Lord Parish has made important 16 and lasting contributions to the lives of its parishioners, the 17 community of Kensington and the surrounding area during its 100- 18 year history; therefore be it
1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commemorate the 2 100th anniversary of the Ascension of Our Lord Parish and extend 3 congratulations to the bishop, the Most Reverend Anthony 4 Cardinal Bevilacqua; the pastor of Ascension of Our Lord, the 5 Reverend Michael J. McCleane; and the Sisters of Saint Joseph 6 and the Dominican Sisters of Hope who presently serve the 7 parish; and be it further 8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare September 9 12, 1999, as "Ascension Day" in Pennsylvania in honor of the 10 100th anniversary of the Ascension of Our Lord Parish in 11 Philadelphia.
