INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, MAY 11, 1999
A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing June 1999, as "Dairy Month" in Pennsylvania. 2 WHEREAS, The dairy industry is the leading agricultural 3 industry in Pennsylvania accounting for over 39% of all income 4 derived from agriculture and generating nearly $1.6 billion in 5 revenues to the economy of this Commonwealth; and 6 WHEREAS, Over $40 million in dairy products are exported from 7 Pennsylvania annually; and 8 WHEREAS, There are over 11,000 dairy farms in Pennsylvania 9 and over 50,000 residents employed in the dairy industry; and
1 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania currently ranks fourth nationally in 2 milk production, fourth in frozen dairy manufacturing, fourth in 3 butter manufacturing and sixth in cheese manufacturing; and 4 WHEREAS, Milk is Pennsylvania's official beverage, and dairy 5 farmers produce over 1.2 billion gallons of milk annually, 6 nearly 7% of the total milk production in the United States; and 7 WHEREAS, Despite uncooperative weather patterns which affect 8 the quality of feed and the condition of cattle, dairy farm 9 families continue to produce and promote quality products for 10 the nutritional enjoyment of consumers; and 11 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's dairy industry is a delightful source 12 of pride for citizens across this Commonwealth and the nation 13 who have the opportunity to view the picturesque farms and savor 14 the food products; and 15 WHEREAS, Pennsylvanians have celebrated the accomplishments 16 of the dairy industry during the month of June for over 60 17 years; therefore be it 18 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the 19 accomplishments of dairy farm families and the dairy industry 20 and recognize June 1999, as "Dairy Month" in Pennsylvania; and 21 be it further 22 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives call upon the 23 people of this Commonwealth to celebrate "Dairy Month" and to 24 salute dairy farm families and the dairy industry for their 25 contributions to Pennsylvania agriculture and for their 26 dedication to quality.
