        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           APRIL 12, 1999

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating April 8, 1999, as "Equal Pay Day" in Pennsylvania.

     2     WHEREAS, The Constitution of Pennsylvania prohibits denial or
     3  abridgment of equality of rights because of sex; further,
     4  section 6(d) of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 (52 Stat.
     5  1060, 29 U.S.C. § 206(d)) and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act
     6  of 1964 (Public Law 88-352, 42 U.S.C. § 2000e et seq.) prohibit
     7  pay discrimination for men and women doing the same job; and
     8     WHEREAS, All the residents of this Commonwealth will benefit
     9  from equal pay; and
    10     WHEREAS, It is essential that all Pennsylvanians be aware of
    11  the need for and benefits of equal pay; therefore be it
    12     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate April
    13  8, 1999, as "Equal Pay Day" in Pennsylvania and encourage all


     1  residents of Pennsylvania to support and assist in maintaining
     2  pay equity throughout this Commonwealth.
