           REPRESENTATIVES, AS AMENDED, JUNE 6, 2000

                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 18 (Crimes and Offenses) of the Pennsylvania
     2     Consolidated Statutes, prohibiting the pointing of laser
     3     beams at law enforcement officers or firefighters.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 2705 of Title 18 of the Pennsylvania
     7  Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
     8  § 2705.  Recklessly endangering another person.
     9     [A] (a)  Misdemeanor of the second degree.--Except as
    10  provided in subsection (b), a person commits a misdemeanor of
    11  the second degree if he recklessly engages in conduct which
    12  places or may place another person in danger of death or serious
    13  bodily injury.
    14     (b)  Laser beams used against law enforcement officers or
    15  firefighters.--A person commits a felony of the third degree if
    16  he, while acting in an unofficial capacity, subjects the eyes of

     1  a law enforcement officer or a firefighter to a laser beam.
     2     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
