                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, further providing for drivers of emergency
     3     vehicles.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 3105 of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
     7  Consolidated Statutes is amended by adding a subsection to read:
     8  § 3105.  Drivers of emergency vehicles.
     9     * * *
    10     (g)  Emergency vehicle preemption devices.--
    11         (1)  The department shall promulgate regulations for the
    12     operation and use of preemptive traffic devices by emergency
    13     vehicles, including the following requirements:
    14             (i)  Set standards for the frequency, bandwidth and
    15         type of preemptive device emitter to be used by an
    16         emergency vehicle.
    17             (ii)  Set standards for the operation of intersection

     1         traffic signals in response to a preemptive signal from
     2         an emergency vehicle.
     3             (iii)  Identify emergency personnel authorized to
     4         operate preemptive traffic devices, establish standard
     5         requirements for the training of such personnel in the
     6         use of the devices and identify circumstances in which
     7         the use of such devices is permitted.
     8         (2)  An individual other than authorized emergency
     9     personnel who operates or uses a preemptive traffic device
    10     commits a misdemeanor of the third degree.
    11     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
