A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing the American Heart Association for 50 years of 2 service as a voluntary health organization in this 3 Commonwealth. 4 WHEREAS, The American Heart Association, founded in 1924 and 5 becoming a voluntary health organization in 1948, is the oldest 6 and largest not-for-profit voluntary health association 7 dedicated to fighting cardiovascular diseases and stroke, with 8 more than 4 million volunteers joining in its efforts; and 9 WHEREAS, Through research support, public health education,
1 professional education and training, community services, 2 management and fundraising, the American Heart Association has 3 been a leading force in reducing disability and death from 4 cardiovascular diseases and stroke; and 5 WHEREAS, Research funded by the American Heart Association 6 has yielded such discoveries as cardiopulmonary resuscitation, 7 bypass surgery, pacemakers, artificial heart valves, 8 microsurgery and life-extending drugs, with three Nobel Prizes 9 having been awarded to researchers who received association 10 funding; and 11 WHEREAS, American Heart Association public education programs 12 help millions of Americans recognize warning signs and reduce 13 their risk factors for heart disease and stroke, and association 14 training systems in emergency care procedures instruct millions 15 in this country and worldwide; therefore be it 16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives proudly recognize 17 the American Heart Association for 50 years of leadership in 18 fighting cardiovascular diseases and stroke; and be it further 19 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to 20 the American Heart Association, Pennsylvania Affiliate, Post 21 Office Box 8835, Camp Hill, Pennsylvania 17001-8835.
