INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, APRIL 27, 1998
A RESOLUTION 1 Declaring May 16 through 22, 1998, as "Safe Boating Week" in 2 Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Last year 18 individuals lost their lives in boating 4 accidents in this Commonwealth; and 5 WHEREAS, Sixteen of those individuals drowned because they 6 were not wearing life jackets; and 7 WHEREAS, Hundreds of lives could be saved across the United 8 States each year by the wearing of life jackets; and 9 WHEREAS, Life jackets are more comfortable, attractive and 10 wearable than styles of years past; and 11 WHEREAS, The law requires that wearable life jackets be
1 carried for each person on board a boat; and 2 WHEREAS, Little effort is needed to wear life jackets; and 3 WHEREAS, The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is one of 4 many sponsors of National Boat Week, to be observed during the 5 week of May 16 through 22, 1998; therefore be it 6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare the week 7 of May 16 through 22, 1998, as "Safe Boating Week" in 8 Pennsylvania.
