        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MARCH 31, 1998

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Declaring the week of April 6 through 10, 1998, as "Public
     2     Health Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Public Health Awareness Week is a community outreach
     4  effort to deliver health promotion messages directly to the
     5  community, ensuring that the general public and professionals
     6  have an opportunity to participate in the program and improve
     7  their understanding of an appreciation for the vital impact
     8  public health has upon shaping a healthier future; and
     9     WHEREAS, The audiences for Public Health Awareness Week
    10  include the community, public health professionals, legislators,
    11  community agencies, professional associations and the media; and

     1     WHEREAS, Public health services benefit the entire population
     2  of this Commonwealth and cross all ethnic, socioeconomic and
     3  individual family and social strata of our communities; and
     4     WHEREAS, Public knowledge and awareness of healthful
     5  behaviors are cost-effective and contribute significantly to the
     6  reduction of needless physical and emotional suffering; and
     7     WHEREAS, An annual celebration of "Public Health Awareness
     8  Week" in this Commonwealth will increase awareness and
     9  understanding of the importance of a strong public health
    10  policy; therefore be it
    11     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare the week
    12  of April 6 through 10, 1998, as "Public Health Awareness Week"
    13  in Pennsylvania.
