HOUSE RESOLUTION

No. 99 Session of 1997


        INTRODUCED BY BAKER, GEIST, ARMSTRONG, LYNCH, SCHULER, SHANER,
           EGOLF, FARGO, FICHTER, BARD, HERSHEY, E. Z. TAYLOR, ROSS,
           WAUGH, PETTIT AND SEYFERT, APRIL 2, 1997

        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON RULES, APRIL 2, 1997

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Directing the State Government Committee to study the
     2     privatization or contracting out of government services.

     3     WHEREAS, It may be beneficial to Pennsylvania's taxpayers for
     4  State government to privatize or contract out many of the costly
     5  services it now provides through State agencies, including, but
     6  not limited to, the Department of Transportation's Bureau of
     7  Driver's License and Registration processing centers; and
     8     WHEREAS, This has been tried successfully in other states;
     9  therefore be it
    10     RESOLVED, That the State Government Committee make a study of
    11  the feasibility of privatizing many State services; and be it
    12  further
    13     RESOLVED, That the committee may hold hearings, take
    14  testimony and make its investigations at such places as it deems
    15  necessary in this Commonwealth. Each member of the committee
    16  shall have power to administer oaths and affirmations to
    17  witnesses appearing before the committee; and be it further


     1     RESOLVED, That the committee make a report of its findings
     2  and recommendations to the full House of Representatives within
     3  one year of the date of adoption of this resolution.
