HOUSE RESOLUTION

        INTRODUCED BY CAPPABIANCA, BOYES, SCRIMENTI, BEBKO-JONES, COY,
           TIGUE, OLASZ, BELARDI, GEORGE, LAUGHLIN, COLAFELLA, READSHAW,
           SEYFERT, MELIO, WOJNAROSKI, CAWLEY, HALUSKA, GRUITZA,
           BATTISTO, DeLUCA, HERSHEY, BENNINGHOFF, ROONEY, SHANER,
           ROBERTS, BOSCOLA, McCALL AND TRELLO, FEBRUARY 12, 1997

        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON RULES, FEBRUARY 12, 1997

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Directing the Consumer Affairs Committee to hold hearings on the
     2     use of local natural gas supplies and coal by Pennsylvania
     3     public utilities.

     4     WHEREAS, Energy production has played an important role in
     5  the history of this Commonwealth; and
     6     WHEREAS, This Commonwealth still produces significant amounts
     7  of energy; and
     8     WHEREAS, This Commonwealth possesses ample sources of energy,
     9  including natural gas and coal; and
    10     WHEREAS, It is important to consider whether these local
    11  sources of energy could be used by public utilities in this
    12  Commonwealth; therefore be it
    13     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives direct the
    14  Consumer Affairs Committee to hold hearings on the subject of
    15  the desirability of increasing the use of Pennsylvania-produced
    16  natural gas and coal in terms of cost, capability and
    17  reliability; and be it further

     1     RESOLVED, That the Consumer Affairs Committee be authorized
     2  to take testimony from representatives of public utilities,
     3  natural gas producers, coal mining companies, the Pennsylvania
     4  Public Utility Commission, consumer activists, government
     5  officials, organizations that represent any of the above and
     6  members of the general public; and be it further
     7     RESOLVED, That the Consumer Affairs Committee make a report
     8  and recommendations within 120 days after the date of the first
     9  public hearing.
