AN ACT 1 Amending Title 53 (Municipalities Generally) of the Pennsylvania 2 Consolidated Statutes, further providing for reimbursement of 3 police officers' salaries. 4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 5 hereby enacts as follows: 6 Section 1. Section 2170(a) of Title 53 of the Pennsylvania 7 Consolidated Statutes, added December 19, 1996 (P.L. , 8 No.177), is amended to read: 9 § 2170. Reimbursement of expenses. 10 (a) General rule.--The commission shall provide for 11 reimbursement to each municipality of the entire amount of the 12 allowable tuition and the ordinary and necessary living and 13 travel expenses incurred by their police officers while 14 attending certified municipal police basic training schools if 15 the municipality adheres to the training standards established 16 by the commission. The regular salary of police officers while 17 attending approved schools shall be paid by the employing
1 municipality. The commission shall reimburse the employing 2 municipality for 60% of the regular salaries of police officers 3 while attending schools approved under this subchapter. For the 4 fiscal year beginning July 1, 1998, to June 30, 1999, and for 5 each year thereafter, the commission shall reimburse the 6 employing municipality for 80% of the regular salaries of police 7 officers while attending schools approved under this subchapter. 8 The commission shall require written documentation of all 9 expenses incurred by municipalities relating to the training of 10 municipal police officers for the purposes of reimbursement by 11 the commission. All municipalities shall annually audit these 12 funds as part of their annual audit and submit a copy of the 13 audit to the commission. Failure to perform the audit and submit 14 a copy of it to the commission shall render the municipality in 15 violation of this subchapter. 16 * * * 17 Section 2.
