A RESOLUTION 1 Proclaiming May 30, 1996, as "Sister City Day - Esslingen." 2 WHEREAS, The United States' Sister Cities idea was launched 3 as a national concept in 1956, when President Dwight David 4 Eisenhower called for massive exchanges between Americans and 5 the people of other lands; and 6 WHEREAS, Since its beginning the number of United States 7 cities participating has grown; and 8 WHEREAS, Pittsburgh has a Sister City relationship with 9 Saarbruecken, Germany; and 10 WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Teutonia Maennerchor and Damenchor are 11 conducting a singing tour in Germany this year; and 12 WHEREAS, This tour will take the 60 singers and guests from 13 Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Rudesheim Gau-Algehseim, Mannheim- 14 Feudenheim, Kirchheim an der Weinstrasse, Altheim, Munich, 15 Oberammergau, Esslingen, Fellbach-Schmiden, Rothenburgh o.d. 16 Tauber and Gross Gerau from May 21 through June 4, 1996; and 17 WHEREAS, The goal for the cities involved is to learn more
1 about each other and to further develop lasting and meaningful 2 exchanges; therefore be it 3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 4 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania proclaim May 30, 1996, as "Sister 5 City Day - Esslingen" and call upon citizens to celebrate this 6 day in recognition of Sister City friendship.
