A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1 Honoring Loretta Claiborne on her induction into the 2 Pennsylvania Special Olympics Hall of Fame on March 21, 1996. 3 WHEREAS, Loretta Claiborne, an athlete from York County, is 4 being inducted into the first-ever Pennsylvania Special Olympics 5 Hall of Fame; and 6 WHEREAS, Loretta Claiborne will be honored at the Hall of 7 Fame dinner and induction ceremony on March 21, 1996, at the 8 Philadelphia Marriott; and 9 WHEREAS, In 1981 she was the first Special Olympics athlete 10 to run in the Boston Marathon, and she received the Spirit of 11 Special Olympics Award from Vice President George Bush; and 12 WHEREAS, She was named Pennsylvania Special Olympics Female 13 Athlete of the Year in 1988 and Special Olympics International's 14 Athlete of the Year in 1990; and 15 WHEREAS, She was honored in 1991 as the Greatest Special 16 Olympics Athlete of the past 25 years by the magazine Runner's 17 World; and
1 WHEREAS, In 1995 she earned recognition as a recipient of an 2 Honorary Doctorate Degree from Quinnipiac College. She was also 3 chosen to introduce President Clinton during Opening Ceremonies 4 at the 1995 World Games; and 5 WHEREAS, She has been featured on ESPN, Nickelodeon, CBS This 6 Morning with Charles Kuralt, ABC Wide World of Sports, The New 7 York Times and numerous other papers and magazines; therefore be 8 it 9 RESOLVED (the Senate concurring), That the General Assembly 10 honor Loretta Claiborne on her induction into the Pennsylvania 11 Special Olympics Hall of Fame; and be it further 12 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to 13 Loretta Claiborne, 440 East King Street, Apartment 182, York, 14 Pennsylvania 17403.
