           APRIL 20, 1995

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating April 29, 1995, as "Prader-Willi Syndrome Awareness
     2     Day" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Prader-Willi Syndrome affects the brain and if left
     4  undiagnosed and unmanaged can lead to obesity, diabetes and
     5  premature death; and
     6     WHEREAS, This genetic defect is further complicated by mental
     7  retardation, behavioral problems and developmental delay; and
     8     WHEREAS, Since the discovery of this syndrome in 1956 by
     9  Swiss Doctors Prader, Willi and Labhart it has been determined
    10  to affect one in every 15,000 people; and
    11     WHEREAS, It is believed that Pennsylvania has the fourth
    12  highest number of cases of Prader-Willi Syndrome in the nation;
    13  and
    14     WHEREAS, The Prader-Willi Syndrome Association is planning to
    15  conduct various activities throughout the nation during the week

     1  of April 29 through May 6, 1995, to further awareness of Prader-
     2  Willi Syndrome; therefore be it
     3     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate April
     4  29, 1995, as "Prader-Willi Syndrome Awareness Day" in
     5  Pennsylvania.
