        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MARCH 7, 1995

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Declaring the week of March 13 through 20, 1995, as
     2     "Fibromyalgia Syndrome Awareness Week."

     3     WHEREAS, Fibromyalgia syndrome, a disease manifested by
     4  progressive muscular pain, fatigue, insomnia and deteriorating
     5  activity, seems primarily a disease affecting middle-aged women
     6  slightly less than 50 years of age; and
     7     WHEREAS, Although the cause of fibromyalgia syndrome is
     8  obscure and laboratory tests fail to confirm its diagnosis,
     9  fibromyalgia is, nevertheless, a well-defined condition
    10  affecting more women than rheumatoid arthritis; and
    11     WHEREAS, The effects of fibromyalgia gradually result in a
    12  significant reduction of physical activity because of the
    13  muscular pain and fatigue, thereby adversely affecting its
    14  victims and family members; and
    15     WHEREAS, There is very little public understanding of

     1  fibromyalgia syndrome; therefore be it
     2     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare the week
     3  of March 13 through 20, 1995, as "Fibromyalgia Syndrome
     4  Awareness Week" and urge all Pennsylvanians to become aware of
     5  and seek an understanding of fibromyalgia syndrome.
